RICS Survey Confirms Persistent Rental Supply Shortage
The latest residential market survey from RICS reveals that the UK rental sector continues to face a significant imbalance between supply and demand.

The latest residential market survey from RICS reveals that the UK rental sector continues to face a significant imbalance between supply and demand. Tenant demand has seen a consistent increase, recording a net balance of +14%, while landlord instructions to bring new properties to market remain in negative territory at -17%. This ongoing trend suggests that the rental market is being driven by structural forces rather than temporary fluctuations. Many tenants are choosing to remain in rented accommodation for longer periods, further tightening the availability of homes. Surveyors anticipate that these conditions will continue to exert upward pressure on rental prices across the country.
Mike Georgeson, CEO of Matriva, commented: “That's why we are seeing such sustained pressure on affordability for renters across the board. For our landlords and agents, this data confirms that the market remains highly competitive, making it more important than ever to focus on tenant retention and efficient property management to navigate these tight supply conditions.”
