Why we built Matriva

Renting in the UK is broken. Tenants pay rent for years and build zero credit, while landlords juggle spreadsheets, expired gas certificates and chasing references. Agents duplicate every task across portals, inboxes and paper files. Compliance deadlines are missed, deposits are disputed, and no one has a single, trusted record of the tenancy.

We built Matriva to fix this. One platform where rent payments are verified through Open Banking and reported to credit bureaus. Where referencing is a guided, digital flow instead of a PDF attachment. Where gas safety, electrical and EPC compliance is matched to qualified local tradespeople automatically. Where tenancy agreements are signed and stored online, and sanctions screening runs silently in the background.

Our story

Matriva started with a simple frustration: a tenant who had paid rent on time for five years and still could not get a mortgage because none of that payment history appeared on their credit file. Meanwhile, their landlord was spending weekends chasing an expired gas safety certificate and re-typing tenant details into a fourth different portal.

The idea was born: build one platform that connects every part of the rental journey, so that rent payments build credit, compliance never lapses, and no one has to re-enter the same data twice. Today, Matriva serves tenants, landlords, agents and tradespeople across the UK - with rent-to-credit reporting, digital tenancies, compliance job matching, sanctions screening and AI support built in.

Mike Georgeson

Mike founded Matriva after seeing firsthand how the UK rental system fails every stakeholder - tenants who pay rent for years without building credit, landlords drowning in compliance paperwork, and agents duplicating every task across disconnected portals. His mission is to build one trusted platform that makes renting fairer, more transparent and more efficient for everyone involved. Mike was previously CEO at RentalStep, where he created and managed a team who helped over 10,000 tenants and 4,000 landlords.

Rent payments are verified through FCA-authorised Open Banking providers, Finexer. We never see your bank login credentials - you grant read-only consent that you can revoke at any time.

Tenant rent history is reported to TransUnion, Experian and Equifax - the UK's major credit reference agencies.

Sanctions & PEP screening

Every tenancy, property, tenant and applicant is automatically screened against the UK government sanctions list and OpenSanctions PEP datasets, with match confidence scoring and an audit trail.

Stripe payments

All rent collection, landlord payouts and subscription billing are processed through Stripe, PCI-DSS compliant and used by millions of businesses worldwide.
